Fertility Medication FAQs

Leuprolide should be stored at room temperature and protected from light.

No. The vial contains 2.8 ml of drug, which is normally sufficient for at least one cycle.

On the insulin syringes (for Leuprolide):

  • 10 units = 0.1ml = 0.1cc
  • 5 units = 0.05ml = 0.05cc
No. It is unlawful for a pharmacy to accept returned medication.
Always follow the instructions you receive from your pharmacist, as each medication has its own requirements.
A long needle (1-1/2″) may be used for mixing medications, for drawing up medications, or for intramuscular injection. A short needle (1/2″) is used for subcutaneous injection. Insulin syringes (orange-tipped) are always used for Leuprolide injection.
Progesterone oil is always given intramuscularly. You should use a long (1-1/2″) needle for this injection.

The type of injection preference varies by clinic. Therefore it is important that you follow your clinic’s instructions.

Unless otherwise instructed, most centers recommend 1cc (1 ml) of diluent to dilute all of the powder.

It is recommended you give your shot the same time each day. Some physicians may allow a window of time to give the medication. Check with your center regarding protocol.

Some suppositories are refrigerated in order to hold their shape, in which case refrigeration can help them return to their shape if they arrive warm. However, some suppositories, including Endometrin suppositories, are always stored at room temperature. You should follow the instructions provided or contact your pharmacist or physician.

Check your city's regulations—most cities do allow you to throw away your sharps container in the garbage.

In Omaha, you may drop off your full sharps container at “Under the Sink” located at 120th and I or any other local hazardous waste disposal center.
